Doha-Qatar: The Ministry of Municipality and Hassad Food Company announced that the opening of the “Traditional Market exhibition” is scheduled to take place tomorrow (Thursday, December 5th, 2024) as part of the scheduled exhibitions for Umm Salal Winter Festival, taking place at the Umm Salal Central Market.
The “Traditional Market” Exhibition will run for 10 days starting December 5th until December 14th, 2024. The exhibition will showcase a diverse group of Qatari traditional products such as traditional furniture, carpets, oils, dates, perfumes, and many others with the aim of meeting the needs of the visitors and supporting local products.
On this occasion, Mr. Mohamed Ghanim Al-Kubaisi, General Manager of Aswaq for Food Facilities Management Company commented, “It is our pleasure to launch the second exhibition, “Traditional Market,” as part of the scheduled exhibitions for Umm Salal Winter Festival. Al-Kubaisi pointed out the company’s keenness to showcase the Qatari cultural and heritage identity by organizing such events, which serves the needs of the local community and supports the local products. The General Manager also highlighted that those events are in line with Hassad Food Company’s strategy, which aims to contribute to achieving food security for the State of Qatar.
The Umm Salal Winter festival will host several important events and exhibitions during the period 21st November 2024 till 19th February 2025, with the aim of supporting local products, by providing a suitable marketing platform for local producers throughout the winter season.
The festival’s daily operational hours are divided into two periods: the morning period from 09:00AM till 01:00 PM, then the evening period from 04:00 till 08:00 PM. On Friday, the morning period will be from 08:00-10:30 AM, while the evening period remains unchanged.
As part of Hassad Food Company’s keenness to support the “Families of Home-Grown Projects” – the families will continue to participate in the festival’s activities in the section designated specially for them to showcase their products, in collaboration with the Family Empowerment Department, at the Ministry of Social Development and Family.
Umm Salal Central Market is one of six integrated markets managed by Aswaq for Food Facilities Management Company (a subsidiary of Hassad Food). The central market spans over 60,000m2, and is located at the intersection of integral highways (Al-Majd and Al-Shamal), which links the market directly to the main ports of Al-Wakra, Al-Ruwais, Al-Khor and Doha.
The central market includes fish market, auction hall, Al Mazrouaa’ yard (a space for fresh produce), private slaughterhouse, shaded barns, vegetables, fruits and dates shops. It also includes meat shops, ice factory, supermarket, mosque and administrative offices.
